Working with an agency

How long does it actually take to see results from social media marketing?

Last updated: 23 July 2026

Our take

This is the conversation I have with almost every client in week one, because a wrong expectation set here does more damage than any single bad post or ad ever could. Three months isn't a sales pitch to lock someone in — it's the actual amount of time this takes. If I told you two weeks, I'd be telling you what you want to hear, not what's true.

Based on what we've seen across brands we've worked with, most start to see a real, measurable shift after 3-4 weeks of continuous, right marketing — not day one, and not overnight. That timeline isn't us being cautious; it's genuinely how long it takes for consistent content and communication to build enough signal for the algorithm, and for an audience, to actually respond.

Why doesn't it happen faster?

Two separate things have to happen at once: the platform has to learn who to show your content or ads to, and your actual audience has to see the same brand enough times to trust it enough to act. Neither of those compress into a single week, no matter how good one individual post or ad is. This is also exactly why we ask for a 3-month starting commitment on any engagement — cutting things off at week two almost always means judging a campaign before it had the chance to actually work.

Does paid (Meta Ads) move faster than organic content?

Generally, yes. Meta Ads typically show directional signal — click-through rate, cost per result, early conversion trends — within the first couple of weeks, since you're paying for distribution instead of waiting to earn it. Organic content still needs the same 3-4 week runway to build real momentum, since it depends on the algorithm's trust in the account building up over time, not just over one ad set.

What's the biggest reason brands feel like "nothing is working" too early?

Almost always, it's watching the wrong number. Likes and follower count in week one tell you very little. What actually predicts whether the next 90 days will work is whether saves, shares, and genuine replies are trending up week over week — and whether the team behind it is still iterating on the hook and the offer, rather than repeating whatever didn't land the first time.

If you're a few weeks into something and can't tell whether it's actually working or not, that's usually worth a real look at the numbers rather than a guess either way.
